Community Support Sale

The past few weeks have been incredibly trying for all of us as the world deals with the coronavirus pandemic and the new normal is "social distancing" and staying at home for most of us. This has affected all of us in some way, but those of us who are self-employed, own small "nonessential" businesses, or worked for one, suddenly find ourselves struggling. Currently here in Maine, we're under a stay-at-home order unless we go out for essential purposes, so I've cut back my photo excursions to nothing until this is over. My classes and workshops have been canceled for the foreseeable future.

I tried to think of ways I could help, and considered a few options. At first I considered using the proceeds from my sales to help local small businesses, and while that would be nice, it only helps those small businesses in my own area of Maine. So I thought, maybe if I offered a discount of 25%, my customers, who have come from all over the country, could use the savings to help their local and struggling small businesses. Maybe order take out from a local restaurant. Or place an online order with a local shop, or buy produce from a local farm stand. Anything helps. Just last week my wife and I bought freshly caught lobsters from a local lobsterman- they've been hit hard as the restaurants they normally sell to aren't ordering as much.

In the end, I'm not going to tell anyone how to spend your money, but I thought this might be a great way to help. I hope everyone stays safe and healthy as we make our way through these times.
